The GERIATRIC project is a Marie Skłodowska-Curie Actions Postdoctoral Fellowship (Grant Agreement No. 101149390) led by Dr Panagiotis Kourtesis and hosted at the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens, supervised by Associate Prof. Maria Roussou.
The project investigates how eye-tracking (gaze) and finger-tracking (hand) interactions can improve the usability and accessibility of immersive virtual reality (VR) applications for older adults, particularly in neuropsychological assessment. It aims to create ecologically valid, user-friendly tools for detecting cognitive decline and to develop a framework that can evolve into a cognitive-training platform.
GERIATRIC will produce open-source VR software and assets to support research and clinical practice. It contributes to the Department’s focus on human–computer interaction, immersive technologies, and applications of VR in cognitive health.
