Lecture by Thomas J. Misa - "Understanding ‘How Computing Has Changed the World’"

When: Tuesday March 10, 2020, 13:00 pm

Where: Main Amphitheater, Department of Informatics & Telecommunications, University Campus, Zografou

This talk will not tell you which programming language you should study; but it might change how you think about AI, ML, NLP, and FPGA’s and other enthusiastic trends in computing. It assesses the recent Gartner business consultancy’s “hype cycle” on artificial intelligence through a wide-ranging overview of the history of computing with special focus on ‘how computing has changed the world’. It will discuss the surprising rise of business computing, the uneven development of the internet, and the changing character of globalization. We cannot precisely predict the future; but we will all be living there soon enough. What will it be like?

O T. J.
